Prospective Band Students

Symphonic Band includes Brass, Woodwind, Percussion, and String instruments. If you are interested in being a part of Concordia’s Symphonic Band, please arrange a time to meet with Mr. Held through email at [email protected].  This is an opportunity for the student to share their past experiences, current skill level, and future goals in music while helping Mr. Held to learn how to best serve your student upon arrival at Concordia.

Be prepared to play:

  • Short excerpt of a solo, etude, or band piece
  • One major scale
  • Short sight-reading exercise

Unique Aspects of our Instrumental Program

  • Well-Rounded Involvement: Many students who participate in band at Concordia are actively involved in athletic teams, theatre, academic team, agriculture, choir, and various clubs and organizations.
  • No Marching: By not marching in the fall semester, band students are able to participate in various fall sports and activities.  We will play in the stands for home football games.  Even without marching in high school, many alumni have gone on to have successful careers in university marching bands.
  • Band Tours: In their four years in Concordia Symphonic Band, students will have 2 opportunities to travel to multiple states on band tours.
  • Praising God through Music: Band gives students a special opportunity to give thanks and praise to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ while sharing the Gospel with our audience and growing deeper in our faith and community together.
