Congrats to the Concordia cheer team on their 2nd place State Runner-Up finish at the TAPPS State Cheer Championships for the 2021-2022 school year! The team was narrowly beat out by Argyle Liberty Christian for the title in the TAPPS Division 5 – Spirit Division.

The team performed two routines in the State Championship and scored well earning a Superior rating from the judges. Individually, several Crusaders were honored:

  • Dana S. (Sr.) and Kayleigh S. (Jr.) were selected as All-State 1st Team
  • Summer W. (Sr.) finished in the top 8 of the 5A/6A Individual Jump competition, was selected as All-State 2nd Team, and Academic All-State
  • Presley M. (Jr.) was selected as All-State Honorable Mention

This year’s squad cheered at Football and Basketball games, pep rallies, and also participated in the Tomball Holiday Parade and the Cruisin’ Crusaders 5K Run/Walk thru downtown Tomball.

The Crusaders have finished near the top of the State Championship competition the last four seasons under coaches Jessie (Barton) Thompson ’12 and Betsy Barton, where they were state champs in 2018-19 and 2019-20 and then fourth place in 2020-21.

Both Coach Thompson and Coach Barton have a long history with the Crusader Cheer team as Barton has been coaching since 2002 in various roles of Head Coach, Varsity Assistant Coach, and Junior Varsity Coach.

Thompson cheered for the Crusaders while in high school and was a captain her senior season before continuing to cheer at Texas State University where she was x2 World Champion with the Texas State University All Girl Cheer team. Thompson served as the Varsity Assistant Coach from 2016-2020 for Concordia and was most recently the Head Coach from 2020-2022.

Taking over for the Cheer program moving forward in the 2022-2023 season will be Head Coach Katie Ray. Coach Ray is excited to continue the successes of the program through encouraging the girls to be role models in the community while also having amazing athleticism and building lifelong bonds.
