Concordia Cheer Team Claims 3rd Place at TAPPS State Championships

Congrats to the Concordia Cheer team on their 3rd place finish at the TAPPS State Championships on Monday, Dec. 5, 2022, in Belton, TX.

The Crusaders competed in the Spirit Squad division against 10 other TAPPS 6A and 5A schools from around the state. They performed their routine twice, once in the morning and once in the afternoon.

Concordia was the highest finishing TAPPS 6A school in the Spirit Division and they earned a Superior rating from the judges. San Antonio Christian School and Southwest Christian School in Fort Worth (both TAPPS 5A schools) finished as State Champs and State Runners-Up respectively.

To prepare for State, the cheerleaders performed their routine at to different home showcases – one for parents and friends and another at a special assembly in front of the entire school. Almost 1/3 of the cheer team is new to Concordia and the State Competition. These performances gave the new girls and the entire team some opportunities to shake off the nerves and perform at a high level.

The team was led by their four seniors who were all honored as All-State based on their performances at the State Competition:

  • Alexandra M. (Sr.) – 1st Team All-State
  • Kayleigh S. (Sr.) – 1st Team All-State
  • Paige Merrill (Sr.) – 2nd Team All-State
  • Presley Mondick (Sr.) – Honorable Mention All-State

The last five seasons have been impressive for Concordia as the cheer team has finished in at least the Final Four each season. The team was State Champs in 2018-19 and 2019-20, 4th Place in 2020-21, State Runner-Up in 2021-22, and 3rd Place this season in 2022-23.
