Concordia Announces the Hiring of New Boys Basketball Coach - Drew Janszen ‘09

We are excited to announce Mr. Drew Janszen ’09 has been hired as our new Boys Basketball Head Coach. Coach Janszen enters Concordia with a depth of coaching experience at the high school level, collegiate division 1 level, and in training athletes currently playing professionally. As a valued CLHS alumni, Class of 2009, Coach Janszen held a brief stint as an assistant / associate head coach at Concordia, serving an integral role in Concordia's 6A state championship season in 2018.

Coach Janszen went on to coach at the division 1 collegiate level at North Texas and Sam Houston State, working with and serving alongside now current Texas Tech head coach, Grant McCasland, and current West Virginia head coach, Ross Hodge. Coach Janszen later had experiences working with high school athletes at Dynamic Prep Academy in Dallas, working alongside program founder and six-time NBA All-Star, Jermaine O'Neal.

Concordia’s Head of School, Mr. Todd Eklund, had this to share about Coach Janszen: “ His skillset, knowledge of the game, ability to raise the bar for individual players, focus on culture, and his investment in the lives of former players on and off the court, has made him a tremendous asset to the previous programs he served in. We are excited to welcome Coach Janszen back home as we engage mission-aligned pursuits in partnership.”

In addition to serving as our new Head Coach, Coach Janszen will be on campus full time as a Math teacher. Most importantly, he is a man of faith who passionately aligns with Concordia's mission in Building Lives of Excellence Upon the Foundation of Christ.

In his return to his alma mater, Coach Janszen shared the following:

I am incredibly excited and humbled to return to Concordia Lutheran High School—a place that shaped me not only as a student and athlete but also in my walk with Christ. As an alumnus and former assistant coach, it’s a true blessing to lead the boys basketball program and be part of a community that values both excellence and faith. At the heart of everything we do will be a commitment to honoring God, building strong character, and developing young men who lead with integrity on and off the court. My vision is for our program to be rooted in servant leadership, guided by a process-driven mindset, and prepared to compete with and find success against the best teams in the state.
