Crusader Shotgun Team Hosts Annual Battle of the FFAs in Waller, TX

On Friday, Dec. 5th, Concordia’s Shotgun Team hosted their 7th Annual Battle of the FFAs Shotgun Tournament for almost 150 high school students from 19 different FFA and 4H programs around Texas. Out of all of the entries, Concordia had 25 shooters (23 boys and 2 girls) participate and was one of only two private schools including Lutheran South Academy.

The tournament was held on Concordia’s home shotgun course in Waller, TX. School teams and individuals competed in the event that featured two flights.

For the team competition, the top three highest scores were combined. Yoakum FFA won the event with a score of 245 (out of possible 300), with Columbia-Brazoria FFA, Texas City FFA, and Needville FFA all tying with team scores of 242. Based on the tie-breaker of the team’s 3rd scorer, Columbia-Brazoria FFA finished 2nd and Texas City FFA claimed 3rd.

The Concordia Crusaders team finished in 6th place overall with the top three scorers shooting a combined 226: Sam Rabalais ‘27 – 77/100, Carter Word ‘29 – 75/100, and Ian Gales ‘26 – 74/100.

For the individual competition, shooters were divided into veteran and novice brackets. While competing on a challenging course in cold and cloudy conditions, there were only 10 individuals to card scores over 80.

Two-time National Champion William Edgmon from Devine HS FFA scored an incredible 96/100 targets and Ryleigh Spencer from Katy FFA scored 75/100 to claim 1st Place Male and Female respectively.

Carys Driskill ‘26 hit 70/100 targets and claimed 3rd Place Female earning the only individual buckle for Concordia. Rabalais hit 77/100 targets which placed him T-13th Place Male on the day and was the high scorer for Concordia.

A huge thank you to our hosts, the Barker Family, as well as the volunteers and parents who supported the annual home contest. This event was part of a larger weekend event that included a Sporting Clays Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 6th that raised funds to support additional wish list items for the Agriculture programs at Concordia.

The Sporting Clays Tournament was made possible by many sponsors and our entire Agriculture program leaders including this year’s officers. Trendsetter Engineering had the top two teams on the podium for Saturday’s event with Fowl Hooked Charters coming in 3rd overall.

The funds raised from the Battle of the FFAs and the Sporting Clays Tournament both will benefit not only the shotgun program, but also the archery, bass fishing, vet med, leadership, horse judging, livestock show and judging teams, as well as many other activities.

Thank you to our event sponsors: Platinum Sponsor – Trendsetter Engineering, LLC, Underwriting Sponsor – Chaparral Industrial Services, Gold Sponsors – Ranger Conveying & Supply LP and W.T.
